Welcome to Introduction to Geographic Calculator, a self-guided course for new users.

Geographic Calculator® is a powerful geodetic application that provides accurate coordinate conversion, datum transformation, and file translation. Built on the foundation of the largest geodetic parameter database available anywhere, it has particular strength in the fields of surveying, seismic data management, and energy exploration.

This course provides a direct, project-oriented approach to learning the capabilities of Geographic Calculator. You will learn how to navigate the interface, add projects, and save workspaces. Then you will be guided step-by-step through several of the most common tools for processing data, including the Interactive Conversion, Point Database Conversion, Vector Data Conversion, and Raster Data Transformation jobs. You’ll work directly in the software to process sample data for each job.

Course Requirements

Before you begin, please install and license Geographic Calculator 2023 on your computer. You can download Geographic Calculator 2023 here and activate a free trial license in the interface if needed.

A collection of sample data files that will be used throughout the course can be downloaded here. After the download is complete, unzip the Intro_to_Geographic_Calculator folder and copy it to a convenient location on your computer.

It is recommended that you attach a second monitor to your computer, with one display showing this course content in your browser and the other allowing you to follow along in Geographic Calculator.

Course Structure

As you progress through this self-training course, written instructions will provide an overview of the relevant tools in the software. Download the accompanying data files, which provide the opportunity for hands-on experience with each of the transformation jobs. At any point in the course, you can review a previous section. At the end of each lesson, a short quiz will be offered to gauge knowledge and proficiency.

Look out for the following symbols interspersed throughout the course:
